GLORIA-NYCU leads collaborative achievements in smart healthcare through industry-academia-research

The annual flagship event in the field of biotechnology, BIO Asia-Taiwan 2023, will take place at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 1, from July 27th to 30th. National Yang-Ming Chiao Tung University's themed pavilion will also make a significant appearance on the fourth floor. Exhibitors from National Yang-Ming Chiao Tung University this year include Taiwan Exosome BioTherapeutics Co., Ltd., Taiwan Intelligent Pollutant Sensing Co., Ltd., Eyemikan Biotech Inc., CHIA SON CELL TECH. CORP., and smart healthcare companies linked through industry-academia-research collaborations such as GLORIA-NYCU-supported teams led by Professors BOR-RAN LI, GUAN-YU CHEN, How-Foo Chen (AFFINITY SENSING TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD.), and YU-SHOW FU.
BOR-RAN LI, GUAN-YU CHEN, How-Foo Chen (Affinity Sensing Technology), and YU-SHOW FU, four professors highly recommended by GLORIA-NYCU, focus their research on biomedical sciences, life sciences, healthcare, and biotechnology. Their participation in the exhibition aims to foster industry exchanges, collaborations, and innovation. The themed pavilion of Yang-Ming Chiao Tung University serves as a platform for business negotiations, showcasing areas, and seeks to facilitate business collaborations, technology transfer, and the exploration of new partnerships and market opportunities. Additionally, dedicated speeches and seminar sessions have been arranged, inviting experts, scholars, and industry professionals to exchange and share their expertise and experiences, discussing the latest trends and challenges in the field of biotechnology.
Led by How-Foo Chen, Affinity Sensing Technology utilizes its self-developed SPR patents and chip technology for rapid and accurate detection of agricultural residues. The developed detection platform enables independent field testing and offers high sensitivity, excellent selectivity, fast analysis speed, and low cost, showcasing significant market potential. BOR-RAN LI focuses on research areas such as nanomaterial synthesis, sensor device fabrication, surface chemistry modification, integration of biochips, and biomedical sample testing, contributing to enhanced detection accuracy and efficiency. GUAN-YU CHEN's biomimetic lung-on-a-chip is an inhalation testing alternative system that simulates the functionality of the human lung. It is used to assess the impact of inhaled substances on the respiratory system and significantly improves the success rate of drug development. YU-SHOW FU has developed a medical-grade human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell (hUC-MSC) product. The cultivation of hUC-MSCs is performed using a serum-free and human platelet lysate-free culture medium, enabling rapid and large-scale acquisition of stem cells while maintaining their stemness. This product has the potential to treat diseases such as pulmonary fibrosis. The global patent layout has been completed, and collaboration with companies in the regenerative medicine field worldwide is anticipated for technology transfer to jointly address the global issue of pulmonary fibrosis.
During the exhibition, GLORIA-NYCU will host a technology presentation session where the latest biomedical research and development achievements will be publicly shared. The aim is to assist novel technologies in their path towards commercialization and enhance the application potential of academic research and technology. GLORIA-NYCU hopes that the faculty and student teams can showcase their highlights through BIO Asia-Taiwan 2023, thereby increasing opportunities for technology matchmaking.
