Characteristic
Diener Parylene coating:
The applications of Parylene Coating in the biomedical field:
1. Heart assist devices: Precision electronic circuits such as cardiac pacemakers and shock generators are sealed with Parylene to
prevent corrosion from biological fluids and protect the metal casing.
2. Pressure sensors: such as blood pressure sensors, depositing a small amount of Parylene can provide sufficient insulation without
significantly changing the operation of these devices.
3. Alternative devices: Such as restorative artificial devices, protection with Parylene can eliminate problems related to microscopic
delivery and prevent corrosion of biological fluids.
4. Ultrasonic transducer: a miniature sensor used to observe the inner wall of blood vessels. Using Parylene can prevent corrosion
and breakdown.
5. Bone growth stimulator: After using Parylene, the device can be isolated from biological fluids, and human cells can easily grow on
the surface of Parylene to form a thin layer of tissue with the same structure.
6. Brain probe: Using Parylene can lubricate the surface of the brain stimulation probe and selectively insulate it.
7. Urinary catheter: Protection with Parylene can provide good lubricity and prevent corrosion from biological fluids.
8. Bone nails: Parylene protects bone nails from corrosion and can be lubricated without reducing size restrictions.
9. Needle: Parylene can seal the microscopic looseness of metal, forming a smooth and pore-free surface, reducing the possibility
of contamination by attachments.
10. Cannula: Precision instruments used for laparotomy, such as cautery cannulas with conductive metal shafts, insulated with Parylene
to guide radiofrequency energy to the precise area of the tip.
11. Parylene vacuum coating can be used as a new type of pharmaceutical packaging material. The Parylene coating blocks the contact
between the rubber stopper and the medicine, and can improve the stability of the medicine compared with ordinary butyl rubber
stopper.
Advantages of Diener Parylene coating include:
• Fully adaptable, i.e. they adapt even to complex substrate contours such as sharp edges, holes or blind vias
• Non-porous starting from a coating thickness of approximately 0.5 microns, no need for hole treatment
• Chemically insoluble and resistant to many chemicals
• Has very good barrier properties, resists moisture and chemicals, and has high dielectric strength
• Has dry lubrication properties (low coefficient of friction)
• Hydrophobicity: Wetting angle with H2O is between 92° and 98°
• Transparency between 90% and 96% in the visible wavelength range
• Parylenes Types C and N are biocompatible and can be certified according to USP Class VI and ISO 10993, and can be approved by the FDA.
