Characteristic
EpiV Medium is a serum-free, bovine pituitary extract (BPE)-free, human platelet lysate (HPL)-free, cholera toxin-free, chemically-defined cell culture medium for the growth of epithelial cells and keratinocytes without the use of feeder layers, but not for the growth of fibroblasts. EpiV Medium supports the primary culture of keratinocytes freshly isolated from tissues and the subsequent long-term culture.
Keratinocytes play a critical role in the process of wound healing. However, the cultivation of keratinocytes is quite difficult. The proliferation rate of keratinocytes is very slow, the number of passages is extremely limited, and keratinocytes are prone to differentiation. At present, the commonly used keratinocyte culture media on the market mostly contain BPE, which contains unknown ingredients and carries an infection risk of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE). On the other hand, the cell culture performance of BPE-free and serum-free keratinocyte culture media typically yields insufficiently rapid production of a large amount of keratinocytes for clinical applications. Our company has acquired the exclusive license for EpiV Medium from the Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry Technology and Development Center (PDC), and subsequently enhanced and optimized it through our R&D team's efforts. The cell attachment ability, growth rate, and passage number of keratinocytes in EpiV Medium significantly surpass those of other competitor media.
