Piezoelectric Bone Nails

Characteristic
Currently used clinical materials for bone fractures, including bone screws, bone plates, and bone fillers, only serve the purpose of positioning and fixation but cannot continuously aid in bone healing after implantation. Our recent research on the effects of piezoelectric stimulation on bone marrow stem cells and chondrocytes has shown that piezoelectric stimulation can effectively enhance the migration, proliferation, and differentiation of bone marrow stem cells, and help chondrocytes maintain their cartilage characteristics in a planar culture environment. Additionally, animal experiments have confirmed that piezoelectric stimulation helps to strengthen the recovery of bone quality. Post-operative X-rays also demonstrate that rats implanted with piezoelectric bone screws exhibit a higher degree of bone recovery. Our team hopes to use this technology to solve the problem of nonunion in bone fractures.
