Characteristic
Methyl methacrylate (MMA) embedding offers the advantage of preserving the complete structure of mineralized tissues and allows the inclusion of foreign materials such as metal implants or bone grafts. This technique is ideal for biomaterials evaluation, osseointegration studies, and implant biocompatibility testing, meeting ISO 10993-3 standards. It is a high-precision histological method for hard tissues that cannot be processed by routine paraffin embedding, particularly suitable for undecalcified bone and tooth samples.
Our MMA embedding and sectioning technique enables the production of ultrathin plastic sections (5–20 µm) including implants. These sections are compatible with various special and immunohistochemical stains, such as Masson Trichrome, Von Kossa, and Toluidine Blue, providing excellent tissue and cellular detail. This is a key technique for studying bone regeneration and hard tissue repair.
