Adjuvants

Characteristic
An adjuvant is a substance that can be added to some vaccines to help enhance the immune response in people receiving the vaccine. The addition of an adjuvant in a vaccine not only boosts its immunogenicity property but also reduces the required antigen dosage.
Adjuvants, in combination with vaccines, are receiving more attention than ever due to their broad usage during the COVID-19 pandemic. Amaran Biotech manufactures and sells a high-grade adjuvant product, code named AB-801, that has similar application capabilities as the widely used QS-21 adjuvant. AB-801 is derived from the soap bark tree (Quillaja saponaria), which is native to Chile, Bolivia and Peru.
QS-21, is an extremely potent adjuvant and is currently used in several vaccine drugs, including the FDA-approved GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Shingrix® shingles vaccine. This saponin-based adjuvant is also a key component in the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine.
