As health awareness rises, many people will take the initiative to monitor their physical condition. Whether healthy or sick, if you continue to lose body water without immediate replenishment due to excessive sweating, high temperature or illness, you will become dehydrated. When dehydrated, the human body often does not show immediate warning signs, so they are often ignored, and other diseases may even be worsened by dehydration.
In order to detect dehydration in patients more quickly and at an early stage, our team worked with the Instrument Technology Research Center of the National Laboratory and National Taiwan University to develop a portable body water meter using saliva conductivity measurements. We have obtained patents in Taiwan, the United States, the European Union, and China. This instrument allows us to know the water status of patients through their saliva within minutes, provide immediate treatment for dehydrated patients and monitor their water status after rehydration. At the same time, since there is no need for repeated blood draws or urine tests, this device can be used to continuously monitor the patient's hydration status.
This invention won the Platinum Award at the 2017 Taipei International Invention and Technology Exchange Competition, the Clinical Innovation Award at the 15th National Innovation Award, and the Innovation Improvement Award at the 16th and 17th National Innovation Award. We also joined the Intellectual Property Value-Added Operation and Management Center (IMPACT) established by the Ministry of Education, integrating resources by a professional team with experience in intellectual property, industry-university, and technology transfer; and were recommended by the New Startup Helper.
