National Sun Yat-sen University has developed an innovative large-area afterglow discharge cold plasma technology that induces reactive oxygen species (RONS) for rapid treatment of difficult-to-treat wounds. The active plasma material can quickly kill bacteria and promote wound healing. This technology is applicable to large-area wounds such as traumatic injuries, burns, and difficult-to-treat diabetic foot ulcers and pressure sores. In addition to rapid hemostasis, it can reduce the use of antibiotics and consumables, shorten the wound healing time, and balance clinical efficacy with environmental sustainability. The related results have been transferred to a local bio-tech company of Long-Yi Biomed for medical device development.
