Microarray patches have a wide range of potential applications—including cosmetics, healthcare/nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and even medical devices. Currently, their most prominent commercial use is in the cosmetic industry, particularly for addressing various skin concerns.
Unlike traditional skincare methods such as lotions, serums, or standard patches, microarray patches use dissolvable micro-scale needles—often made of active cosmetic ingredients like hyaluronic acid—to enable painless, precise penetration into the skin. This allows the ingredients to be delivered directly below the skin surface, where they can act more effectively.
So, how does it work? The patch contains a group of tiny sharp dissolvable needles that gently pierce the outermost layer of the skin. These microneedles then dissolve, releasing their active ingredients exactly where they’re needed. Cosmetic applications include reducing wrinkles, brightening skin, treating acne, and delivering anti-aging compounds with high precision and minimal discomfort.
